Virgil No. 3 Shawl Collar Dinner Jacket Ivory Wool Barathea
The black-tie and shawl-collared version of our classic Virgil jacket, in an ivory barathea from England that gives a very James Bond feel. The broken-twill weave gives barathea its signature pebbled surface, and this mill in particular has been producing fabric since 1772. A classic in every way. The No. 3 jacket make has full canvas construction — the sine qua non of tailoring — with a special, structured 3-layer canvas that'll mold and meld to your body over time. While this version lacks the 3-roll-2 front and notched lapels of our other Virgil jackets, it has the same classically American-by-way-of-Italy spirit with a natural shoulder, a shorter body, and no front darts. Pair with formal trousers for a nice alternative to the traditional tuxedo. Just like all of our tailored clothing, it's designed to take you to black-tie events in Mississippi, Manhattan, and Milan (and beyond) without looking or feeling out of place.

GOOD TO KNOW
What do all the numbers mean?
We organize our tailored clothing into different levels of makes, similar to the way some German automakers have different series of cars.
Our sportiest, most casual make — unconstructed, with no canvas at all. The knockaround.
Our “easy” make, refined yet relaxed, with a lightweight, single-layer canvas. The basic.
Our “house” make and the one that started it all, with a structured, 3-layer canvas. The workhorse.
Our sarto make, with more handwork and a more natural, lightweight-yet-dense 2-layer canvas. The upgrade.
True sarto, with the same canvas as the No. 4, but completely handmade. The top of the line.
